A perfect recipe for Christmas season! Serve this dish as an appetizer or starter. If you make the dips yourself, then you’ll have a infinity of possibilities with this simple recipe 🙂 For a quicker version, buy ready made tapenades or spreads. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 2 round puff pastries
  • 2 tapenades / dips / spreads dried tomatoes and green olives for instance
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 egg yolk

Instructions

  • Spread a first puff pastry.
  • You can either brush the whole dough surface (circle) or draw the shape of a Christmas tree with a knife (see photo) and brush each half of the tree with your tapenades.
  • To garnish the pastry, you can either use homemade spreads or ready-made ones (dried tomatoes and green olives for instance).
  • If you only brush the shape of a tree and not the whole dough, mark with toothpicks the limits of your tree, then place the second dough on top of the first. Using the markers, cut out the two puff pastry sheets in the shape of a Christmas tree.
  • Then cut 1.5 cm strips to form the branches of the tree (see photo).
  • In a bowl, beat the egg yolk with the milk and brush the dough with the mixture.
  • Twist the branches.
  • You can sprinkle the tree with seeds or spices (cumin, poppy, flax, sesame, pine nuts…).
  • With the scraps of dough, make small filled pastries or other shapes and garnish them with the spreads. You can also make a small star to put on top of your tree!
  • Bake at 180 °C for about 20 minutes. Enjoy hot!
